Name and Purpose
- Waaa Circle is a quick-reaction action game where players copy one of three movement choices, and matching the leader sends you to a fun sideline role for a round.
- Builds listening, quick decision-making, and a bit of silliness.
a.k.a.
- Wa Master, Action Circle
Age / Group / Time / Space
- Ages 8-16 | 10-30 players | 10-15 minutes | Open standing space with room for a circle, indoor or outdoor
Materials
- No materials required
Quick-Run Card
- Everyone stands in a circle. Teach all three actions: Alligator (hands as jaws), Snake (cobra hand on elbow), Dragon (hands on hips like wings).
- Choose a Waaa Leader.
- Waaa Leader bows and says “Waaa.” Everyone bows back and says “Waaa.”
- Waaa Leader calls “1-2-3 Wa!” and everyone does one action at the same time.
- Players who match the Leader’s action step to the Sideline Squad for one round, then re-enter. The Leader rotates.
Setup and Boundaries
- Signal: two claps = pause and listen
- Make sure the circle is wide enough that players can see each other’s actions clearly
- Check ground for anything to trip on before play
How to Play
- Teach the three actions before starting:
- Alligator: hold both hands flat and snap them open and closed like jaws
- Snake: place one elbow in the palm of your other hand and raise your forearm like a cobra
- Dragon: place both hands on your hips with elbows out like wings
- Everyone stands in a circle. Choose the first Waaa Leader.
- The Waaa Leader bows toward the group and says “Waaa.” The group bows back and says “Waaa.”
- The Waaa Leader calls out “1-2-3 Wa!” and on “Wa!” everyone (including the Leader) does one of the three actions at the same time.
- Players who chose the same action as the Waaa Leader step into the Sideline Squad: they stand just outside the circle and do a short action challenge (3 star jumps, or a quick dance move of their choice) before re-entering in the next round.
- The Waaa Leader role passes to a new player each round (the person who was in the Sideline Squad the longest, or chosen by the current Leader).
- Play continues for as many rounds as energy and time allow.

Inclusion Adaptations
- Players with limited arm mobility can use a verbal call (“Gator!” / “Snake!” / “Dragon!”) instead of the physical action
- The Sideline Squad re-entry task can be swapped from star jumps to any movement the player chooses (a spin, a clap, a bow)
Stewardship Moment
- No materials to clean up; do a quick visual sweep of the circle space together
- Reflection: “What made you choose the action you did? Was it random, or did you have a strategy?”
Consent
- Pre-brief: “This game involves making big, silly arm movements. For those not comfortable with the physical actions, calling out the name of the action is another option.”
- Mid-game check: After two rounds, pause for a quick thumbs up/sideways/down
- Opt-out/re-entry: Any player can step to the Observer spot at any time. Call “In!” to rejoin at the next Waaa countdown
Risks and Mitigation
- Players bumping arms or hands when doing actions in a tight circle: ensure the circle is wide enough for everyone to have elbow room
- Confusion about which action is which: do a clear demonstration round before play begins, with no consequences
Warm-Up Suggestions
- Practice all three actions in unison as a group three times before the first round
- “Waaa Echo”: leader does an action, group mirrors it, three rounds to warm up
Debrief Questions
- What? “Which action did you choose most often? Why?”
- So What? “How did it feel when your choice matched the leader’s? How about when it didn’t?”
- Now What? “What’s a decision in your day where you have only a split second to choose?”
Cleanup and Reset
- No materials to collect
- Quick look around the space before the group moves on
