How to Play
- Before the group arrives, hide a D’Juno envelope containing a nature fact at a specific location.
- Post the first clue (a rhyming couplet pointing toward the location) where everyone can read it.
- Players work individually or in small groups to figure out the clue and find the envelope.
- If no one finds the envelope in 10 minutes, post the next clue at the same board.
- Continue posting clues until someone finds the D’Juno.
- The finder reads the nature fact inside to the group.
- The group discusses the fact together for 2-3 minutes.
I-OPt Options
- A (Active): Search the area actively, following each clue
- S (Support): Help teammates decode the clue wording or mark locations on a sketch map
- Q (Quiet): Re-read clues carefully and suggest ideas without running around
- O (Observer): Watch the search unfold and offer a hint or guess without moving
Inclusion Adaptations
- Pair up players who prefer company while searching
- Make clue fonts large enough to read easily from a standing position; read clues aloud at the board for accessibility
Stewardship Moment
- The D’Juno facts themselves are the teachable moment: choose facts about local ecology, conservation, or environmental relationships
- After retrieving the envelope, reuse it for future rounds
Consent
- Pre-brief: “This is a hunt using clues. You can search on your own, pair up with a friend, or stay near the clue board and think it through. All of those are great ways to play.”
- For those not comfortable with any part of this activity, sitting out or joining as an observer is another option.
- Mid-game check: after the first clue, pause and ask for a thumbs up or sideways to check energy
- Opt-out/re-entry: players can return to base at any time and re-join the next round
Risks and Mitigation
- Players running in unfamiliar areas: brief boundaries clearly before play; walk-pace rule if terrain is uneven
- Clues hidden in hard-to-reach spots: confirm all hiding spots are at ground level and accessible
Warm-Up Suggestions
- “What’s in my hand?”: staff describes a natural object with three clues; players guess
- “Rhyme Chain”: go around the circle, each person adds a rhyming word
Debrief Questions
- What? “What nature fact did you learn today?”
- So What? “Why do you think that fact matters in the real world?”
- Now What? “Where could you share that fact with someone who might not know it?”
Cleanup and Reset
- Collect all clue cards and envelopes
- Remove any tape from surfaces carefully
- Laminate clues for future reuse
