Name and Purpose
- I See I See warms up the imagination and the body at the same time.
- Players practise listening, creative movement, and following alongside one another without pressure to perform.
a.k.a.
- Mirror Moves, What Do You See?
Age / Group / Time / Space
- Ages 8-16 | 5-30 players | 10-20 minutes | Any open space with room to stretch and move
Materials
- No materials required
- Optional: soft background music to set the mood
Quick-Run Card
- Gather the group in an open space.
- Leader calls “I see I see.” Group replies: “What do you see?”
- Leader names something performing an action (e.g., “birds flying through the air”).
- Everyone uses their body to show that action.
- Invite players to take turns as the caller.
Setup and Boundaries
- Clear enough floor space for everyone to stretch arms wide without touching
- Signal: one raised hand = pause and reset; two claps = gather close
- Check for low-hanging obstacles or wet patches before starting
How to Play
- Everyone stands in a loose cluster or scattered formation.
- The leader calls “I see I see.”
- The group replies: “What do you see?”
- The leader describes something in the world doing an action: “I see leaves spinning in the wind.”
- Everyone uses their whole body to show that image. There is no right or wrong version.
- After a few rounds, invite a volunteer to become the new caller.
- Keep playing until every player who wants to has had a turn as caller.
I-OPt Options
- Start:
- A (Active): Jump right in and move fully
- S (Support): Stand near a friend and move together
- Q (Quiet): Do small, subtle movements from where you are
- O (Observer): Watch the first round to get a feel for it, then step in when ready
- Mid:
- A (Active): Exaggerate movements and add sound effects
- S (Support): Help a friend beside you come up with an idea
- Q (Quiet): Move slowly and gently, focusing on stillness between prompts
- O (Observer): Sit at the edge and count how many different interpretations you spot
- Late:
- A (Active): Volunteer to be the caller
- S (Support): Whisper ideas to the caller to help them choose a next prompt
- Q (Quiet): Respond with just one body part instead of full movement
- O (Observer): Watch and offer one kind observation at debrief
- End:
- A (Active): Lead one final round before the debrief
- S (Support): Help gather the group for debrief
- Q (Quiet): Take a slow breath and settle before the debrief questions
- O (Observer): Share one image that stood out to you
Inclusion Adaptations
- Seated players can show the action using arms, hands, and upper body only
- Non-verbal option: players can draw or point to their interpretation rather than speak
Stewardship Moment
- No materials means no cleanup. Reflect: “We made something together out of nothing. What can you create today with just your imagination?”
- Leave the space exactly as you found it.
Consent
- Pre-brief: “This activity is all about imagination and movement. You get to decide how much or how little your body moves. There is no wrong way to do it. For those who would rather watch the first round before joining, that is a completely valid choice.”
- Mid-game check: Pause after 3-4 rounds. “How is everyone feeling? Give me a thumbs up, sideways, or down.”
- Opt-out/re-entry: Step to the side any time. Step back in any time. No sign-out needed.
Risks and Mitigation
- Players bumping into each other while moving: remind everyone to keep an arm’s length of space
- A caller freezing under pressure: have the leader ready with a backup prompt, and frame it as “the caller can always pass”
- Uneven participation: after a few rounds, quietly invite quieter players by name if they look ready
Warm-Up Suggestions
- “Name Game Stretch”: go around the circle, each person says their name and does one stretch the group copies
- “Shake It Out”: 10 seconds of shaking hands, then feet, then whole body, then freeze
Debrief Questions
- What? “Which image was your favourite to act out? Why that one?”
- So What? “What happens in your brain when you try to turn a picture into a movement?”
- Now What? “Where else in your day could you slow down and really picture what something looks like?”
Cleanup and Reset
- No materials to collect
- Sweep the space for any items that may have been left during the activity
- Return furniture or equipment to original position if the space was rearranged
