Name and Purpose
- Froccer combines the passing flow of ultimate Frisbee with the goal-scoring excitement of soccer, creating a fast and highly social team game.
- Great for groups who love both sports or want a fresh challenge that rewards creativity and communication.
a.k.a.
- Frisbee Soccer, Disc Soccer, Froccer
Age / Group / Time / Space
- Ages 10-16 | 10-24 players | 20-35 minutes | Large open outdoor field or gymnasium, minimum 40m x 25m
Materials
- 2 goals (portable goal frames, cones marking goal width, or chalk lines)
- Cones to define crease areas in front of each goal and sidelines
- 1 Frisbee (disc)
- Pinnies or coloured wristbands to identify teams (optional)
Quick-Run Card
- Mark two goals and a no-entry crease (semi-circle) in front of each.
- Divide into two equal teams.
- Teams pass the disc down the field toward the opposing goal.
- No player (offence or defence) may enter the crease. Jumping over the crease to shoot before landing is allowed.
- Score 1 point per goal. Play to 11 or 21 points, or for a set time.
Setup and Boundaries
- Mark sidelines and both goal creases clearly with cones
- Crease radius: approximately 3m from goal centre
- Signal: 1 whistle = pause; 2 whistles = stop and gather
- Check field for holes, wet patches, or debris before play
How to Play
- Teams start at opposite ends of the field. One team starts with the disc at centre.
- Players pass the disc toward the opposing goal. The player holding the disc may not run; they have 4 seconds to pass (same as ultimate Frisbee).
- If the disc hits the ground, it goes to the opposing team at the spot where it landed.
- No player may enter the crease at any time. This applies to both offence and defence.
- To shoot on goal, a player may jump over the crease line and release the disc before their feet touch the ground inside the crease.
- A goal is scored when the disc passes through or over the goal line without being intercepted.
- After a goal, the non-scoring team starts at centre with possession.
- Play to a set score (11 or 21 points) or a set time (20-25 minutes).
I-OPt Options
- A (Active): Play as a full field player on offence or defence
- S (Support): Play as a designated communicator or positional anchor who organises team movement
- Q (Quiet): Play walk-pace Froccer: walk-only rule applied for the player’s team side of the field
- O (Observer): Track goals and assist with possession calls from the sideline; choose when to join
Inclusion Adaptations
- Walk-pace option: players can declare a walk-pace role before the game; their passes count as normal
- Larger or softer disc for players who find standard discs difficult to grip
Stewardship Moment
- One disc per game; no extra equipment needed beyond what is already on hand
- After play: collect all cones and the disc; do a 60-second sweep of the field
Consent
- Pre-brief: “Froccer is an active team game with passing and goal-scoring. For those not comfortable with full-field play, the walk-pace or team-communicator role is another option.”
- Mid-game check: At halfway, check energy levels and adjust score target or field size if needed.
- Opt-out/re-entry: Players raise both hands to step out. Rejoin at the next possession change.
Risks and Mitigation
- Players colliding near the crease: enforce the no-entry crease rule; remind players before the game
- Disc edge causing impact injury: use a soft-edge disc; remind players to pass with control, not force
- Crease jumping causing ankle injuries on landing: land outside the crease; coach players on safe landing before the game starts
Warm-Up Suggestions
- Keep Away: two small groups practise passing the disc under light defensive pressure for 2 minutes
- Crease Jump Practice: coach players on the jump-and-release technique before the game starts, in a no-pressure setting
Debrief Questions
- What? “What made the crease rule exciting or frustrating?”
- So What? “How did your team communicate when you couldn’t run with the disc?”
- Now What? “How does this connect to any team situation where you have to work with rules you can’t change?”
Cleanup and Reset
- Collect disc and cones
- Return pinnies or wristbands to storage
- Check field for any leftover equipment
