YMCA Summer Camp Memories
By Dustin Garnett SMV YMCA, Ca
This is a great skit to do on the last week of camp. It is a real picture of what happens at the YMCA summer camp, so to make this skit ever better, take the outline of this skit a mold it to your own experience at camp to make it your own. This skit will create a wide range of emotions for everyone involved in camp (campers, counselors, directors, parents) so take the time to personalize it. This skit is better off done with an older group of campers; I did it with our Trekkers group which is 11-12 year olds. I attempted to do it with the 8-9 olds originally and failed horribly. Also one last note in between segments I would tell quick storys about the camp or campers to get even more personal to the segment we were acting out.
Counselor = C
Kids = K
C: It is another great summer here at the YMCA summer camp. You know, I love it here. You know, the best thing about the YMCA summer camp is swimming in the pool.
K: (come up on stage and pretend to swim: Diving Cannonballs, running around the pool, etc) (Have the counselor pretend to be a lifeguard and blow the whistle and say things like no running, splashing, hanging on each other, etc.)
C: But you know the worst thing about the YMCA summer camp is Swimming in the pool
K: (come up on stage and pretend to swim again and then one comes up and says ÛÏoppps I had an accident.Û) (Kids say ÛÏeww, is that a Baby Ruth floating in the pool, etcÛ) (Have a counselor pretend to be a lifeguard and blow a whistle and say ÛÏeveryone out of the pool, CODE BROWN, CODE BROWNÛ.)
C: Swimming is fun. But you know one of the best things about the YMCA summer camp is going to play at the park.
K: (come up on stage and start acting as if they are playing at the park: swinging, sliding, monkey bars, playing ball, tag, etc.)
C: But you know one of the worst things about the YMCA summer camp is walking to park.
K: (come up on stage and pretend like they are walking through a desert: dying of thirst, saying we’re never going to make it, are we there yet, carry me, I need to pee, I’m hungry and other various complaining.) (counselor start by leading the children march them around in a circle and then move to the center and have the kids keep circling you and complaining until you lose it or they get tired and all pass out and fall down.)
C: The park is so much fun but you know the best thing about the YMCA summer camp is dodge ball
K: (come up on stage and pretend to play dodge ball and have a great time)
C: But you know the worst thing about the YMCA camp is playing dodge ball
K: (come up on stage and play dodge ball kids get hit in the face and various other body parts and start to cry, I want my mommy, you cheated, I’m not out yes you are, etc)
C: Dodge ball is really great to play but the best thing about the YMCA summer camp is snack time
K: (RUN up on stage and pretend to eat a good Snacks like cheese its or yogos or strawberries, etc.)
C: But you know the worst thing about the YMCA summer camp is snack time
K: (RUN up on stage and come to find pop tarts with no frosting, really sour and bitter juice like kool-aid no sugar or maybe salt instead of sugar, or some other gross food you can think of. Have the kids get sick and throw up, or start choking, or spit it out, and eventually all die.)
C: Yum snack time is good but you know one of the best things at the YMCA summer camp is singing camp songs.
K: (come up on stage and counselor leads kids in a camp song of your choice, make it good and line the kids up like a choir)
C: But you know one of the worst parts of the YMCA summer camp is singing the camp songs.
K: (come up on stage and counselor once again leads them in a different camp song but this time they sing it sing it horribly out of key and some mess up the lyrics, act bored, sing real loud etc)
C: I love singing camp songs but you know it wouldn’t be summer camp summer camp without the YMCA camp counselors
K: (all come up on stage and hug counselor) (have a counselor say ÛÏI love you guys, etc.Û)(Have them stay on stage hugging while you say the next line)
C: But you know one of the worst things about the YMCA summer camp is the camp counselors.
K: (come up on stage and have a counselor yell at them and take away their swim time, give them write ups, threaten to call parents, etc.) ( kids should cry, say I hate you, I want my mom, I’m telling etc.)
C: You know the best thing about the YMCA is you, the campers. (Have them come up on stage and do whatever they want to do: Dance crazy, sing the YMCA song, whatever clever they can come up with.)
C: But you know the worst thing about the YMCA summer camp isÛ_Û_ well actually there is nothing bad about the campers, you kids are what makes the YMCA summer camp the great camp it is.
