Quick-Run Card

- Players walk in a circle and clap together.
- Staff randomly signals players to step out.
- Continue until one player remains.
- Never reveal the trick, even after.
Setup and Boundaries
- Clear enough floor space for a walking circle
- Signal: leader claps twice to pause the group
- No physical hazards for this activity; ensure the floor is clear
How to Play
- Tell the group there is a specific trick to this game that some players will figure out and some won’t.
- Players begin walking in a circle and clapping together.
- Staff randomly signals players to step out, with no pattern whatsoever.
- Stepped-out players move to the cheer zone (the inside of the circle) and watch with enthusiasm.
- The last player remaining is celebrated as the “Wonder Walker.”
- Do not reveal the trick, even after the game ends. If anyone asks, smile and say “keep wondering.”
- Optional second round: let players swap so everyone who was out first gets a longer round.
I-OPt Options

- O (Observer): Watch the first round entirely before joining

- Late
- A (Active): Make bold guesses about the trick out loud
- S (Support): Keep the energy up in the cheer zone

- O (Observer): Share the theory they developed
Inclusion Adaptations
- Players who cannot walk in a circle can be seated in the circle and clap from their seat; staff signals them out at the same random pace
- Players who feel frustrated by not understanding the trick can be told privately that the randomness IS the game, at the leader’s discretion
Stewardship Moment
- No materials, no waste.
- Reflection: “This game had no trick. How did it feel to look for one anyway? What does that say about how our brains work?”
Consent
- Pre-brief: “This game has a mystery built in. You won’t be told the answer today. For those who find that frustrating rather than fun, cheering from the inside circle is a great spot to be.”
- Mid-game check: After the first few step-outs, pause. “Thumbs up, sideways, or down. Still having fun?”
- Opt-out/re-entry: Step to the cheer zone any time. There is no re-entry mechanic since the game is brief; a full restart is the re-entry.
Risks and Mitigation
- Campers feeling genuinely upset at not understanding: validate the feeling; the insight that uncertainty is okay is the whole point of the game
- Campers trying to cheat or sabotage to ‘figure out’ the trick: redirect with warmth; remind them the joy is in the not-knowing
Warm-Up Suggestions
- “Clap in sync”: group tries to clap together with no leader for 10 seconds
- Walking circle warm-up: walk together and change direction on a clap signal
Debrief Questions
- What? “What patterns did you think you noticed?”
- So What? “How did it feel when you realised there might not be a trick at all?”
- Now What? “When is it okay to not have an answer? When does sitting with a question serve you better than forcing one?”
Cleanup and Reset
- No cleanup needed
- Check the circle area before clearing
