- Ages 5-12 | 2-30 players | 10-20 minutes | Outdoors with an open sky view and a comfortable surface to lie or sit on

- Lie down or sit comfortably and look up.
- One minute of quiet looking.
- Invite players to share what shapes or stories they see.
- Close with a quiet reflection.
Setup and Boundaries
- Choose a flat, dry surface away from foot traffic
- Signal: leader points upward to restart quiet looking after discussion
- Check the ground for wet patches, ant hills, or sharp objects before players lie down
- Sun position: avoid having players look directly into or near the sun; position the group so the sun is behind them
How to Play
- Bring the group to a clear, comfortable outdoor space.
- Everyone lies down or sits back and looks up at the sky.
- Spend one minute in quiet observation. No talking.
- The leader gently invites: “What do you see up there?”
- Players take turns sharing what shapes, creatures, or stories they spot in the clouds.
- Others can add to someone’s idea (“I see that too, and it looks like it’s eating a…”) or start a new one.
- There are no wrong answers. All observations are equally valid.
- Close with a moment of quiet before transitioning.

Inclusion Adaptations
- Players who cannot lie down can sit back in a chair or on a log and look up at the same angle
- Players who are not verbal can point to a cloud and gesture; no words required
Stewardship Moment
- Lie gently on existing grass or mats; do not flatten garden areas or disturb ground covers.
- Reflection: “The sky is always there. How often do you actually look at it? What might you notice if you looked up more often?”
Consent
- Pre-brief: “This is a quiet, lying-down activity. For those not comfortable lying on the ground, sitting back comfortably works just as well.”
- Mid-game check: After one minute of quiet, pause. “Comfortable? Thumbs up if you’re good.”
- Opt-out/re-entry: Players can sit up or step away any time. Rejoin by settling back into a comfortable position.
Risks and Mitigation
- Sun exposure: position the group so the sun is behind them; offer hat reminders for long sessions
- Wet or cold ground: check surface before lying down; mats or blankets available
- Players feeling silly lying down in a group: staff leads by lying down first without comment
Warm-Up Suggestions
- 30 seconds of silent stretching before lying down
- “Name one blue thing, one white thing, one green thing you can see right now”
Debrief Questions
- What? “What was the most interesting thing you saw in the sky today?”
- So What? “Did anyone see the same cloud differently from someone else? What does that tell you?”
- Now What? “When could you use a few minutes of just looking up to reset your mind?”
Cleanup and Reset
- Collect any mats or blankets used
- Check the ground area for any items left behind
