Quick-Run Card
- Two players start as Jokers; the rest lie down as Immobile Bovines.
- Jokers walk among the Bovines and try to make them laugh , no touching allowed.
- Any Bovine who laughs stands up and becomes a Joker.
- Second Circle: players who prefer not to lie on the ground stand in a Side-Line Bovine zone and play from seated or standing.
- Round ends when time is called or only two Bovines remain , those two start the next round as Jokers.
Setup and Boundaries
- Clear the floor of sharp objects or debris before play
- Define a Side-Line Bovine zone (chairs, a mat area, or a marked line) for players who don’t want to lie down
- Signal: one clap = pause; two claps = gather
- Staff stand at the edges to monitor the space
How to Play
- Two players volunteer or are chosen to be Jokers. Everyone else lies down on their backs as Immobile Bovines.
- Jokers walk slowly through the space and try to make the Bovines laugh using funny faces, sounds, poses, or jokes , no touching at any point.
- Any Bovine who laughs, smiles, or moves stands up and becomes a Joker. They may now try to make the remaining Bovines laugh too.
- Second Circle: players in the Side-Line Bovine zone participate from seated or standing. They follow the same rules , stay still and try not to laugh.
- The round ends when time is called or only two Bovines remain. Those two begin the next round as the starting Jokers.

Inclusion Adaptations
- Players who cannot lie on the floor use the Side-Line Bovine zone , same rules, seated or standing
- Players who do not want to perform as Jokers may act as Bovine Zone Monitors (ensuring no touching occurs) , a valued, active role
Stewardship Moment
- No materials, no waste , game has zero footprint
- If played on grass: check the area for litter before lying down, and do a quick sweep after
Consent
- Pre-brief: “This game involves lying on the ground and trying not to laugh. For those not comfortable lying down, there’s a Side-Line Bovine zone where you play seated or standing , same rules, same fun.”
- Mid-game check: After one round, pause. “Thumbs up, sideways, or down. Everyone still comfortable?”
- Opt-out/re-entry: Any player can step to the Side-Line zone or step out entirely at any time. No explanation needed. Rejoin by stepping back into either zone.
Risks and Mitigation
- Jokers may try to touch Bovines: state the no-touching rule firmly before play and reinforce during the game
- Hard floor discomfort: offer mats, towels, or the Side-Line zone option
- One player stays as “It” the whole game without laughing: after two rounds, offer them the option to become a Joker by choice
Warm-Up Suggestions
- “Frozen Statues”: everyone freezes on a signal; staff call out poses and players hold them for five seconds
- “Silly Walk Circle”: walk around the circle using the silliest walk you can , no sounds allowed
Debrief Questions
- What? “What made it hardest to keep a straight face?”
- So What? “Why do you think laughter is contagious? What does that tell us about being around other people?”
- Now What? “When is it a superpower to be able to keep a straight face? When is letting yourself laugh the better choice?”
Cleanup and Reset
- No materials to collect
- Quick floor check for any dropped items
- Choose the next two Jokers and reset in under 30 seconds
